FASTING,

IN PLAIN ENGLISH

A short, honest guide to what fasting is, why it works, and why most fasting advice cannot survive the week you actually have.

Fasting has gone from fringe to mainstream in under a decade. The basic idea is simple — you eat for part of the day, and you do not eat for the rest.

What fasting does not solve is your week. Most fasting plans were written for someone with a stable schedule, a quiet calendar, and predictable sleep. The moment any of those goes, the plan goes too.

The Fasting Vault fixes that. Every product was built around real working life — client dinners, sprint weeks, travel, and the 3pm meeting that runs over. The science is the same as everywhere else. The way it bends to your week is not.

What happens to the body during a fast

Insulin drops. Fat becomes fuel

When you stop eating, insulin levels fall. Your body switches from storing fat to burning what it has already stored. This is why fasting often produces fat loss — and why when you eat matters as much as what you eat.

Autophagy. Your body cleans itself out

After about twelve to sixteen hours without food, your body begins a clean-up process called autophagy — breaking down and recycling worn-out cells. Yoshinori Ohsumi won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for working out how it happens. This is where the longer-term health benefits start.

Hunger fades

The hunger you feel in the first few days of fasting is real, but it is mostly a hormone called ghrelin turning up at the times you used to eat. Ghrelin adapts. Most people find this hunger feeling fades inside two weeks — and the morning decision about whether to fast goes with it.

WHAT THE RESEARCH SHOWS

Lower blood pressure

A 2025 analysis of 56 clinical trials found intermittent fasting reduced systolic blood pressure by around 7 mmHg. That kind of drop meaningfully lowers your stroke and heart attack risk over time.

Weight loss

Recent trials show up to 13% body weight reduction over months of consistent fasting — no calorie counting, no forbidden foods, no meal plans you abandon by Wednesday. Fasting is not a diet. That is exactly why it works.

Steadier blood sugar

Trials in people who are pre-diabetic or living with type 2 diabetes show meaningful drops in HbA1c — the three-month blood sugar marker. For everyone else, steadier blood sugar shows up as fewer afternoon crashes and less of the “hungry-by-11am” cycle.

Sharper focus

A 2025 meta-analysis of 71 studies covering 3,484 participants found that short fasts under 24 hours do not impair attention, memory, or executive function. The worry that fasting will turn your work brain to mush has been studied at scale. The evidence does not support it.

YOU MIGHT BENEFIT FROM FASTING IF...

  • You have been slowly gaining weight despite diet and exercise changes.

  • Your blood pressure has been creeping up at recent check-ups.

  • You are pre-diabetic, or your doctor has flagged your blood sugar.

  • You have high cholesterol your doctor wants you to address.

  • Your afternoon energy and focus are not what you want them to be.

Start with the free 7-Day Plan. Fasting is not the right tool if you are pregnant or breastfeeding - please wait. If you take medication for blood pressure, diabetes, or thyroid conditions, or have a history of disordered eating, please speak to your doctor before you begin.

THE HARD PART IS NOT THE SCIENCE.

IT’S THE WEEK

You now know what fasting does. You do not yet have a plan for actually doing it — what to eat, what to skip, what to do when hunger lands at 11am. The free 7-Day Plan walks you through that, one decision at a time. The Shop has what comes after — fasting through a real working week, decoding the cravings that hit at 3pm. The first week is where every other plan breaks. This one does not.

MY STORY

I have spent twenty years working with CEOs and founders, actors juggling brutal filming schedules, athletes managing competition and travel, executives on back-to-back meetings, doctors and business owners running on too little sleep. Different lives, the same three questions — how do I lose this slow weight, get my afternoon energy back, and feel like myself again, without giving up the life I have built? Fasting was the most useful tool I had. The Fasting Vault is what I built from that work.
